A Granite State beach

Playing with granite blocks at North Beach

I was walking past yesterday afternoon and snapped this iPhone pic. In other photos I’ve taken, it’s hard to tell how big these granite blocks are without something to give them scale.

I assume they have something to do with preventing beach erosion, and protecting the roads and houses on the other side of The Wall from the incursions of the sea. There are lots of them along the length of this beach.

New Hampshire has 4 nicknames. The first is the one by which the state is commonly known.

Granite State: for our extensive granite formations and quarries
Mother of Rivers: for the rivers of New England that originate in our Mountains
White Mountain State: for the White Mountain Range
Switzerland of America: for our beautiful mountain scenery
